We have a few upcoming needs:

1 - Our pasta supper is fast approaching and we need more silent auction items. Do you have a Christmas present that just wasn’t needed and is STILL in your closet? Do you know of a business that might donate a gift certificate or basket? Please contact Ron Brandes ASAP

2 - Can anyone help Ron transport silent auction items the morning of October 26th from his home in Middlebury to Shepardson Community Center? Please contact Ron. If you have a pickup truck that is most helpful.

3 - On November 1st, our sponsoring organization the Middlebury Congregational Church, is running a roadrace in Middlebury. Help is needed from 6-10 Scouts and adults. We arrive at 7:30 AM to help park cars and then to monitor the race, telling runners the correct direction. The race lasts until noon, but whatever you can do is appreciated. This counts for service hours for advancement, but check with Mr. Redline first. If you can help, please contact Karen Curry.

From Jackie Mulhall, Popcorn Chairman:

Congratulations to the scouts who participated in the Popcorn Show N Sells this past weekend. Around $1100 of popcorn was sold! We have two more dates booked at Dinovas for Show N Sells if any of the scouts are interested.

UPCOMING SHOW AND SELL DATES
***September 27 (this Saturday)
***October 11

All you need to do is sign up for a time. One scout or two can take a time. One scout can do it alone with their parent or two scouts with two adults. Popcorn sold during the time you are there is split between the scouts selling at that time. If no one wants to book these times, we will cancel them with Dinovas. This is a great way to sell the $150 of popcorn that Troop 5 requests you sell - no delivery in December, also!

If you are interested in using either of those dates to sell popcorn, please email Jackie Mulhall

From Shelley Pille, Pasta Supper Placemat Fundraiser:

Hi Troop 5 Families,
Last year when I was selling advertisements for the pasta supper place mats, I received some checks from families for some businesses. I assume that the Troop 5 families are family or friends of those businesses. So, I was wondering if I could ask for your help in contacting those businesses, this year. I f you would kindly contact those businesses on your own or give me a contact name and telephone number I would appreciate it. The businesses are as follows:

Ordinary Joe’s, Oakville,
Naugatuck Valley Surgical, Waterbury
American Millwork & Lumber, Waterbury

Also if any of you have family or friends that would like to purchase advertisements they are available for $15, $25 or $50. You may either contact Ron Brandes or myself.

Thank you so very much for all your help.
Shelley Pille

From Pat Dooling, Assistant Scoutmaster:

Troop 5,

There is still one slot left for a Scout and his parent to sell popcorn this Saturday, September 20, 2008, at the Watertown Stop N Shop from 12-3PM. This is an excellent opportunity to meet your requested popcorn sales target of $150 in only three hours! [and, you don’t have to deliver it or fill out order forms!!!] Please reply to Asst. Scoutmaster Pat Dooling as soon as possible to confirm your participation for the 12-3PM slot.

From Steven Zembruski, Assistant Scoutmaster:

Hope all is well at Troop 5. Just wondering if you could let all the kids in the First Aid Merit Badge class over the summer know that they all passed. Also, we will be doing the emergency preparedness class when I return from school over Christmas break. I apologize that I couldn’t make it to summer camp because of work. So I will start that class over Christmas break. Again, I hope all is well with all of you.

Sincerely,
Steven Zembruski

From Karen Curry, Treasurer:

Hi Everyone!

Great news! Tom and I filled out paperwork to apply for a grant from Thomaston Savings Bank in June of this year. I just received a letter of confirmation for an award of $1400.00 to Troop 5 for the specific use “to help fund the completion of the Trailer Project with storage area and help to replace old and damaged equipment.” We should be getting the money in the beginning of October and it will need to be used as stated above. Can’t wait to get moving on our Trailer Project!!! Thomaston Savings Bank is giving away $255,165.99 this year alone to local charitable causes. How AWESOME in these crazy times!

Thank you and if you have any questions, please let me know.

Karen

Hello Troop 5:

By now your Scout should have received his popcorn sales packet. A really simple way for him to sell his $150 in requested popcorn sales is to participate in a Show and Sell event. Each Scout will receive 1/2 credit for what is sold during his shift and his partner receives the other 1/2. Next Saturday, September 20th, Assistant Scoutmaster Pat Dooling will be running sales locations at the Middlebury Post Office and the Watertown Stop and Shop. The following slots are still available:

1 - one Scout and parent at post office from 9-12
2 - three Scouts and three parents at Stop and Shop from 9-12
3 - two Scouts and three parents at Stop and Shop from 12-3

Please RSVP to Pat Dooling as soon as you can to get your spot.

The popcorn fundraiser is the only one we have that also benefits Boy Scout CT Rivers Council. The breakdown is as follows:

1/3 of what you sell goes to CT Rivers Council to help pay for camp expenses, camp scholarships, administrative, etc.
1/3 pays for the product
1/3 remainder - most goes to Scout to pay for camp and a small percentage goes to Troop 5

Hope your selling is going well!

Maureen Marcucci, Committee Chairman

From Shelle Pille and Ron Brandes:

To the friends and family members of Boy Scout Troop 5

On Saturday, October 25,2007, Middlebury Boy Scout
Troop 5 will be hosting our third annual pasta
dinner, which is one of our largest fundraisers for
the year.

There are two ways in which help is needed in this
effort-
1. First, we are having a silent auction and
would appreciate any items you or your friends or
family members may have available to offer. Friends or family members who own a business, may be able to
contribute in any of the following ways.

gift basket or service
Gift certificates
A special hand-crafted item
A “seconds” gift that you just don’t
know what to do with
Jewelry
An antique item
Artwork from a local artist
Anything else you can think of

2. Second, tell all your friends and family members they can help by
purchasing advertising space on the placemat that we will be using the night of our dinner. Spaces are available for as low as $15.00 and
are also available at $25.00 and $50.00 increments.

If you can help in any way, please call- Shelley Pille -
Ron Brandes-
