No meeting this Thursday, March 20th/pls respond to whitewater request

Hello Troop 5:

Lots of odds and ends, but most importantly, there is
NO meeting this Thursday, March 20th, due to Holy Week
services at the church. The rooms are not available!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the New
Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 9th.
Boy Scout Troop 5 had a great showing and all involved
had fun. Thank you to Mr. Bushka for the great
hamburgers! Thank you to Mike J., Andrew B., Pat M.,
Nick M., Ryan B., Paul M., and Mr. Marcucci for
representing the Troop. Thank you to Mr. Baldwin, Mr.
Bushka, Mrs. Mayer, and Paul’s brother for being
there. All agreed to do it again next year.

Steven Z. had a good showing today for his
Eagle project, but there is a lot more mulch to move.
If you can help him this Friday, March 21st at 10:30
A.M., please e-mail him for the
details. Thanks to all who helped out.

Boston Campout change – please read

From Scout Eric D.:I have added the Boston Science Museum for Sunday
April 6. This will add to the costs of the trip which
is now $85 per scout. I apologize for this confusion
and if you’ve paid already and decide you do not want
to attend, a full refund will be given.
If you are interested in attending the Boston weekend,
please submit your payment and permission slip by

Committee Meeting Notes

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Hello Troop 5:In your email you will find the minutes of the March 6th
Committee Meeting.

The tentative slate of officers was presented.
Welcome to CarolSue Shannon as co-advancement
chairman, Adam Burns as pasta supper chairman, and
Faith Bannon as merit badge counselor coordinator.
CarolSue will be training with Tom Curry for the next
year and assuming full advancement chairman
responsibilities by April 2009.

The positions of Court of Honor chair, silent auction
chair, pasta supper ticket sales, and publicity remain
open. If you wish to do your part for the Troop,
please contact me at committeechair@troop5middlebury.org
with your preference.

We need one more adult for the April Boston campout.
So far, Mr. DeAngelis, Mr. Bushka, and Mr. & Mrs.
Marcucci have volunteered, but at least one more
driver/participant is needed.

A Youth Protection class will be offerred in April.
Please contact Robin Redline at outoor@troop5middlebury.org
if you are interested in attending. This is a
prerequisite to attending campouts and other events.

Marti Peterson needs volunteers for the candy sale on
March 29th. We would like to set up at two separate
locations, so many adult and Scout volunteers are
needed. Please contact her if
you can assist. If you haven’t yet taken your box of
candybars, please e-mail her to let her know. She
will send one to this Thursday night’s meeting.

We have three Klondike Derby sleds which need to be
housed until next February. Can you help? Please

A big thankyou to Mr. Baldwin, and his son for
running a CPR class for Troop 5. What a great benefit
to the Troop!!!

Attached is the March permission slip. The $20
cash and signed slip need to be in to me this
Thursday, March 6th. If you don’t attend the meeting
this Thursday then contact me at outdoor@troop5middlebury.org
to make other arrangements.

***We need another parent/Scoutmaster to sign up by
SUNDAY to attend the campout – specifically for the
Friday to Saturday timeslot.

Misc. Announcements

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Hello Troop 5:

A few announcements -

1 – If you have not paid your registration yet, please
bring a check for $75 per Scout and give it to our
Treasurer Karen Curry. She will be at the meeting
Thursday night.

2 – Please bring a check for $36 made out to Troop 5
and pick up your box of candy bars from Marti
Peterson. Marti will also be looking for volunteers
to sell the Troop candy boxes this weekend.

3 – A driver is needed for the March 9th afternoon St.
Patrick’s Day parade. Without one more driver the
boys will NOT be able to participate. Please
volunteer ASAP. Contact Patrick M, SPL.

4 – Adults are needed for the March 14-16th campout.
We need at least one more adult for Friday evening to
Saturday afternoon and a few more would be even
better. Please contact Mrs. Redline at
outdoor@troop5middlebury.org if you can assist.

January 17th Committee Meeting Minutes

Hello Troop 5:In your email you will find the minutes from the January
17th Committee Meeting.

Scoutmaster Conferences will take place this Thursday,
January 31st. If your son needs a Board of Review
(for advancement in rank), he must call Mr. Curry
prior to February 7th to schedule.

We need additional adult volunteers for the Klondike
Derby this Saturday, February 2nd. Please contact

Klondike Derby February 2nd

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

From Dave Redline, Scoutmaster:

Hi all

Next Saturday is the Anual Mad River District Klondike
Derby at Camp Mattatuck. Permission slips will be
coming out early in the week – it is a one day trek
around the camp participating in various activities to
eran gold nuggets. Look for details with the
permission slip.

Whitewater trip deadline extended to 1/25

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Chris M. is extending the Whitewater rafting trip
deadline to Thursday, January 25th. He currently has
20 people signed up and paid, but has heard that
others are interested and is extending the deadline as
a courtesy.

Attached you will find the forms. Please bring them
with $45 cash deposit to next Thursday’s meeting.
This is the LAST possible date for payment.
