From Faith Bannon, Merit Badge Counselor Coordinator:
Dear Troop 5:
Re: Merit Badge Counselor Training
This training is open to all adults who hope to expand or refresh
their knowledge of BSA’s merit badge program. It will be held on
Thursday, November 20th beginning at 7PM in the social hall of
Middlebury Congregational Church.
Please RSVP by 11/19 if you plan to
attend. RSVPs would be appreciated so that we will know how many
handouts we will need for this training. Hope to see you there!
Thanks,
Faith Bannon
From Dave Redline, Scoutmaster:
Camp Mattatuck is having a dedication event for the new lodge, Leever Lodge, on Friday Nov. 14th around 12-1PM. Chris Moon could use a few scouts to perform a flag ceremony. Ben Haase is organizing scouts for the flag ceremony – please let me know asap if your scout can attend. Thanks.

This Thursday we will be working on advancement. All scouts should bring their books.

From Sue Mayer and Denise Black, Scouting for Food Chairmen:
As a reminder, Scouting for Food is this Saturday morning from 9-12 at Shepardson. Scouts should drop off their bags by noon.
***We are in need of 2 ADULT volunteers to help supervise the boys as they sort out food.***
The time slots are as follows:
8:30-10
10-11:30
From Maureen Marcucci: There will be a committee meeting next Thursday, November 13th at 7 PM at the church. If you have an agenda item, please e-mail me at committechair@troop5middlebury.org Thanks!!!
From Jackie Mulhall, Popcorn Chairman:
A reminder to everyone that popcorn orders are due on this Thurs. Nov. 6. Money should be turned in with the orders. Our goal was total sales of $10,000 or an average of $250 per scout. I know we have a few scouts who have sold $500 or more already, and we have $1,772 from Show “n Sell sales and donations, so we are well on our way. If you have not sold popcorn yet, please get out and do it this week. Each scout is requested to sell a minimum of $150 ($200 per family) in popcorn. Money from popcorn benefits not only our troop, but also the district (things like scout camp).
From Sue Mayer & Denise Black, Scouting for Food Chairmen:
Hopefully you all had the chance to appreciate the nice weather last weekend, while putting out your Scouting for Food bags. We’re getting a little “extra help” this year from the Bee Intelligencer newspaper. They will be including our drive in the weekly calendar.
***The bags should be collected up between 9AM and noon on Saturday morning (11/8).***
Please check with your patrol leader on Thursday night to confirm your patrol’s pick up strategy. (Some patrols opted to have different people do drop off and pick up. Others decided to have each boy pick up the same bags he dropped off). If you do not hear from your patrol leader, please be sure to pick up the bags you put out last weekend.
***Bags should be returned to Shepardson before noon on Saturday.***
When you arrive, please consider staying around for 10 minutes to sort the food you collected. You’ll feel wonderful when you look around at all of the yummy things we’ve collected and think about the people for whom this food is not only a treat, but a necessity.
Your help in collecting this food takes a burden off a family that is struggling this season. Congratulations on living out your Boy Scout ideals!
