Silent Auction/Thank you for campout

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Hello Troop 5:

SILENT AUCTION CHAIRMAN:

A special thank you goes out to Assistant Scoutmaster
Ron Brandes for volunteering to run our October silent
auction fundraiser!!! All 27 committee positions are
filled – talk about great participation by parents!
If you are looking to get involved, feel free to
contact me. There are many ways to help out – also,
check your e-mail for current needs.

WEDNESDAY JULY 2ND HIKE:

Next Wednesday, Troop 5 will meet at the MRA at 6 PM
to hike a nature trail at Flanders and then swim at
the MRA until 8 PM.

FROM PAT M., SPL:

Thank you to Mr. & Mrs. Marcucci for hosting the
younger Scout campout Tuesday night at their house and
for providing all of the food and entertainment for
the day. Thank you also to Mr. Brandes for attending
the campout and helping out with adult coverage.
Thank you to Ryan B. for planning the campfire program
and Ryan B., Jon W., and Nick M. for helping lead the
younger Scouts. Some of the activities included
volleyball, a fire-building competition, making a
campfire, campfire skits, two-mile hike, cooking
hamburgers and hotdogs and s’mores, and working on
requirements for tenderfoot and second class ranks.
Also, each Scout earned his totin chit. Much fun was
had by all and we hope to do it again next year.

Silent Auction Chairman needed

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Hello Troop 5:

We have had a wonderful response this year for our
committee positions. But, if we are going to have a
silent auction that position needs to be filled ASAP.
You would work with Mr. Burns to put together a silent
auction at our October pasta supper. Could you do
even one part of this job?

The job responsibilities include:

1 – soliciting donations of gift certificates,
baskets, and other items. There is a list of donors
from last year, so you are NOT starting from scratch.
2 – Displaying items the night of the auction (October
25th or 26th)
3 – arranging for distribution of items to successful
bidders and collection of money (many are distributed
the night of the dinner)

Last year, this effort raised over $600 for the Troop,
and could be even more successful in its second year.
Please consider helping your son’s Troop. Contact me
at committeechair@troop5middlebury.org if you can help.

Thanks very much,

Maureen Marcucci, Committee Chairman

forget anyone-everyone was so terrific.

Prayers for the Mid-Amercia Council

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

From the Mid-America Council, BSA Website:

The Mid-America Council appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this tragic time.

Last evening, a strong tornado ripped through the Little Sioux Scout Ranch in western Iowa where 93 Scouts and 25 Staff members were participating in Pahuk Pride, the Mid-America Council’s Junior Leader Training Course.  4 Scouts were killed and 48 injured.

Little Sioux Scout Ranch is located about an hour north of Omaha, NE, and is where Assistant Scoutmaster Jeff Lukens  camped with his troop when he was living in Omaha after college.

The prayers of Troop 5 are with all the Scouts and Scouters of the Mid-America Council.

Waterbury Fundraiser/Bottle Drive/Carwash/Eagle Ceremony/Court of Honor

WATERBURY FUNDRAISER FOR NEW TROOP & CARWASH/BOTTLE
DRIVE FOR TROOP 5:

From Dave Redline, Scoutmaster:

Hi everyone:
A new Boy Scout troop is forming in Waterbury and they
are holding a fundraiser dinner for the benefit of
starting up the troop. A chicken and rice dinner will
be held this Thursday, June 5th, from 5:00pm-8:00pm.
It is a great oppurtunity to help the new troop you
don’t have to worry about coooking or cleaning up
before our troop meeting. It is at the Pride Cultural
Center on 186 Cherry Street in Waterbury and the cost
is $5.00 – sit down or take out.

This weekend we will be running a bottle drive and car
wash on Saturday – the Philmont crew is in need of one
more fundraiser and this is the only weekend available
(time is flying by fast!) before we depart for New
Mexico. We need as many scouts (and adults) as
possible to sign up for these events – time for the
carwash will be determined by the bottle drive
sign-up. Please come and sign up on Thursday in order
to ensure that these are a success. Thank you Mr.
DeAngelis and Mr. Romano for the efforts in making
these happen.

Yours in Scouting
Dave

June 7th Bottle Drive. Help is needed for the 9-11

Summer Camp Medical Forms

SUMMER CAMP MEDICAL FORMS:

From Jeff Lukens, Assistant Scoutmaster:

Hi Troop 5,

If you or your son is attending Camp Mattatuck with Troop 5 this summer, a current medical form is needed.

Medical forms are considered current if the Physicians Exam was with in the last 3 years (from August 16, 2008) for those under 40, and within the last year for adults 40 and over.

EVERYONE must fill out a new page 1 of the medical form (the parental permission and medical history side) each year.

If your son will be taking medication at camp, the “Authorization for the Administration of Medication by Camp Personnel” form must be filled out and signed by your physician (CT state law).

Both the Medical Form and the Authorization form are on the troop website for your convienence. You can find them under the forms tab.

All forms are due to Jeff Lukens by the July 24th Summer Camp Parents meeting. You can turn in your forms at anytime before then.

If you have questions about what is needed for you or your son, please contact me -
