Troop 5 Committee Meeting – please RSVP

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Hello Troop 5:

Next Thursday, March 6th, at 7 PM is our monthly Troop
5 committee meeting. It will be held at the
Middlebury Congregational Church and parents are
welcome to attend. Opportunities to volunteer and
upcoming activities and plans are discussed at the
meeting.

***Please RSVP to committeechair “at” troop5middlebury “dot” org***

On March 6th, Mrs. Peterson will be distributing boxes
of candy (one per family please) to sell for our
spring fundraiser. Please bring a check for $36 made
out to Troop 5 and she will give you your box. If you
would like more than one box, no problem.

On March 8th, Mrs. Peterson will be coordinating
outside sales of candybars at Middlebury locations.
She will be looking for parents and Scouts to
volunteer for this. Details to follow . . .

On the afternoon of March 9th, Troop 5 will be
marching in the New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
We are right between the ‘Free Men of the Sea’ and the
Litchfield Fife and Drum Corps. Should be fun! It
would be really, really helpful if one or two adults
could volunteer to help with the driving. Scouts,
please contact SPL Pat M. if you can participate.

Thanks very much!

Troop 5: No meeting but hike on Sunday

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

***NO MEETING THIS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21ST***

From Mr. Redline, Scoutmaster:

Hi all,

It was great to see our Troop 5 family last week at
the Court of Honor. Please note that we do not have a
meeting this week. We will be holding a 5 mile hike
(2nd class req.) this Sunday (Feb 24th) – meeting at
the church at 12:00 and hiking at the Roxbury Iron
Mine. The hike will take between 3-4 hours and we
will spend some time at the old furnances. Scouts
will need to be dressed for the weather – boots, hat,
gloves a must. Water bottle and snack will be needed.

- I need at least one adult to join me on this trek
- Permission slips will be available and need to be
signed Sunday
- Pre-registration is a must – email or call me (or
Robin), no later than Friday night. We may
need additional drivers based on participation.
- We will be back to the church approx 5pm

Have a great week off.

Yours in Scouting,
Mr. Redline

Philmont Updates

Monday, February 18th, 2008

The Philmont section of the website has been updated with the current dates for the crew meetings and shakedowns – please check there or the troop calendar on the website for the most up-to-date information on our Philmont trek

Our next crew meeting will be Monday, March 10th at the church. Please bring your backpack packed as if you were going to Philmont. I know that you don’t have the official packing list yet, so this is a chance for you to take what you have learned over the years and decide what you think you will need. Use your resources!

We will also be picking the top 5 itineraries for your trek. At our last meeting, you indicated your interests, and I ran those through the computer to find the 10 best matches. We will look at each of the treks and pour over the maps to make the decision as to your top 5 choices.

Keep up your physical conditioning – you should be exercising at least 3 days a week for 30 minutes a day at this point.

See you on March 10th

Scout Sunday/Bottle Drive, etc.

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Hello Troop 5:

BOARDS OF REVIEW:

Scouts who have successfully passed their Scoutmaster
Conference and need a board of review, please call Mr.
Curry ASAP to schedule.

BOTTLE DRIVE:

Adults and Scouts, if you can help with the Bottle
Drive this Saturday, February 9th from 9-11 or 11-1,
please e-mail Mr. DeAngelis

SCOUT SUNDAY:

Scout Sunday is this Sunday, February 10th. This is
an opportunity for the Troop to thank our sponsoring
organization Middlebury Congregational Church (MCC).
Think of all the meetings we hold at the church:
weekly, training, Boards of Review, Courts of Honors,
Eagle Courts of Honor, Dinners, etc., etc. Think of
the equipment we store free of charge. Think of the
electric and heating bill the church covers so that we
can meet. The MCC truly supports Scouting in the
Community via Boy Scout Troop 5 and Cub Pack 6.

Please consider dropping your son off to attend the
10:00 A.M. service this Sunday. Your whole family is
welcome, but there will be adult coverage so a
drop-off is OK. The Troop also will be sponsoring the
social hour after church, so baked goods are greatly
appreciated.

***Class A uniforms are required.***

If your son can attend and/or usher (arrive at 9:30)
or if you can contribute baked goods, please e-mail me
at committeechai@troop5middlebury.org

Thank you in advance for saying thank you to the MCC.

Sincerely,

Maureen Marcucci, Committee Chairman
