Klondike campout permission slip due 1/31

Hello,If your son is attending the Klondike campout of
February 2nd, the permission slip should be returned
by THIS Thursday, January 31st to Mr. Redline,
Scoutmaster.

Please do the following:

I) Print the emailed document.
II) Complete and sign the form.
III) Return the completed form with your $13 cash
payment by Thursday, January 31st.

Congratulations to our 48th Eagle!

Hello Troop 5:

Troop 5 welcomes SPL Patrick M as its newest
and 48th Eagle Scout!!! Patrick successfully had his
Board of Review last night. Congratulations, Patrick!

On a more mundane note, there are two changes to the
Troop’s upcoming commitments:

1 – Due to scheduling conflicts, the April campout in
Boston has been rescheduled to the weekend of April
4-6th. Please adjust your calendar.

2 – Due to sporting conflicts (the Superbowl), the PLC
has been rescheduled to February 10th.

To everyone skiing at Bromley or going to the
Klondike, have a great weekend.

January 17th Committee Meeting Minutes

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

Hello Troop 5:In your email you will find the minutes from the January
17th Committee Meeting.

Scoutmaster Conferences will take place this Thursday,
January 31st. If your son needs a Board of Review
(for advancement in rank), he must call Mr. Curry
prior to February 7th to schedule.

We need additional adult volunteers for the Klondike
Derby this Saturday, February 2nd. Please contact
Mrs. Redline at outdoor@troop5middlebury.org if you can help.

Please mark your calendar for the February 9th Bottle
Drive. If you can help, please contact Tom DeAngelis

Klondike Derby February 2nd

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

From Dave Redline, Scoutmaster:

Hi all

Next Saturday is the Anual Mad River District Klondike
Derby at Camp Mattatuck. Permission slips will be
coming out early in the week – it is a one day trek
around the camp participating in various activities to
eran gold nuggets. Look for details with the
permission slip.

Whitewater trip deadline extended to 1/25

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Chris M. is extending the Whitewater rafting trip
deadline to Thursday, January 25th. He currently has
20 people signed up and paid, but has heard that
others are interested and is extending the deadline as
a courtesy.

Attached you will find the forms. Please bring them
with $45 cash deposit to next Thursday’s meeting.
This is the LAST possible date for payment.

Troop 5: Sad news

Dear Troop 5:

I have sad news. Troop 5 Scoutmaster Dave Redline’s
father passed away Saturday night after a long
illness. Troop 5 extends its sympathies to the
Redline family.

From today’s Republican-American (Edited to comply with Troop Website Policies):

“Mr. Ronald N. Redline, age 69, of 28 Platt Drive,
died Saturday, Jan.5, 2008, at his home, surrounded by
his family, after a courageous battle with brain
cancer. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lois
(Copes) Redline.

Mr. Redline was born Dec. 6, 1938, in Palmerton, Pa.,
a son of the late Lavina (Strohl) Redline Edwards and
norman H. Redline. He graduated from Crosby High
School in 1956 and served in the United States Air
Force from 1957 to 1961, achieving the rank of airman
first class. he graduated from the University of
Connecticut, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree
in chemistry in 1967. He was employed by Uniroyal,
the University of Connecticut Health Center, Doctors
Diagnostic Laboratory, and retired from MacDermid Inc.
after 15 years of employment.

He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in
Waterbury where he formerly served as senior warden
and was an active member of the vestry, Mens’ Club,
choir and bell choir. He was a former Scoutmaster of
Troop 34 in Waterbury. He enjoyed traveling, reading
and spending time with his family.

Besides his wife, Mr. Redline is survived by three
sons, David C. Redline of Prospect, Dennis Redline of
Torrington and Peter D. Redline of Bristol; a daughter
Nancy (Redline) Falcone of Oakville; nine
grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother,
Edward Ha. Redline of North Muskegon, Mich.; and 12
nieces and nephews.”

BSA Training offered January 3rd at church

Hello,

On January 3rd, Troop 5 Assistant Scoutmaster Jeff
Lukens will be offering from 7-9 PM the following Boy
Scouts of America training:

Safety Afloat
Climb-on Safely
Trekking Safely
Safe Swim Defense (if time permits)

cost: nothing
where: social room at Middlebury Congregational
Church
who: Scoutmasters and parents

Why should you attend? BSA requires that trained
adults be present at activities like:

swimming at Pomperaug pool
whitewater rafting
climbing trips
etc., etc., etc.

Come attend training so that your son will benefit,
now, or in the future.
