Road Race 11/3 & Pasta Supper Update

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

From Karen Curry, Pasta Supper Co-Chairman:

Hi everyone!
I am so happy with the way things went on
Saturday at the Pasta Dinner…Thank you all!

I have a request from the Middlebury Congregational
Church for help this Saturday, Nov. 3rd for their road
race. The older Scouts will help guide people to park
their cars and all Scouts there will help runners
along the race to know which way to go. There will be
appropriate adult coverage from Troop 5, but more
parents are always welcome.

We need to be there for about 7:45 A.M. and will
probably be there until about 11 A.M. Sounds fun!
The race starts at 10 and there will be many walkers.
Anyone who can help for whatever time span would be
greatly appreciated. There will be a sign-up sheet at
the meeting this Thurs. or you may call me. Please consider
helping our Charter Organization! Scouts, this counts
for your service hours for advancement.

Thank you!
Karen Curry

From Maureen Marcucci, Committee Chairman:

Thank you to everyone who helped with our pasta
supper. We had 75% of the Scouts in our Troop
participating and many, many adults. We do not have
final numbers, but currently estimate that we raised
$3,000 and served over 200 dinners.

Thank you to the following Scouts who participated:

Toby A., Andrew B., Nathan B., Adam B., Ryan B.,
Jordan C., Ed C., Tommy C., Eric D., John D., Alex F.,
Henry H., Mike J., Frank K., Nick K., Pat M., Nick M.,
Paul M., Chris M., Matt M., Eli P., Joe P., Zach R.,
Erik R., Kevin R., Graham R., Brendan R., Marc R.,
Jack S., John W., Justin Z.

I don’t know the names of all the parents and other
adults as I was busy making brownie sundaes, but thank
you all for making this a fun and highly successful
fundraiser.

Three cheers to Tom & Karen Curry (co-chairmen) and
Denise Black and Shelley Pille for working so hard on
this event!!!

The carwash raised almost $1,000. Thank you to all
who helped out by sending baked goods, towels, washing
cars, and getting their cars washed. Thanks again to
Dom and Elaine Romano for their organizational talents
and enthusiasm. We hope to have another carwash in
the spring.

Yours in Scouting,

Maureen Marcucci

Pasta Supper this Saturday, October 27th

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

From Karen Curry, Pasta Supper Co-Chairman:

Hi Troop 5!

I am now getting excited for the Sat. night Pasta
Dinner and all the fun it has to offer; aren’t you?
Last year we had a ball and we are again looking
forward to that!

We will be serving, hopefully, about 400 people.
We need as much manpower as we can gather together to
make Troop 5 look great in Middlebury and Southbury’s
eyes! We are giving to the community, as well as
getting a great deal back in return. Thank you to
Christine Dibble who had the idea of donating tickets
to Seniors. Tom and I brought 31 senior tickets to
The Senior Center on Monday and Joanne will try to
arrange transportation for them to come on Sat. How
awesome is that! That is only one way we are giving
back to the community.

It is very important that each and every boy make
it to this event to help the troop. All scouts need to
be in FULL Class A uniform and looking sharp! We need
help from 3-6 and from 6-9. If you can stay for the
whole time, we’d appreciate it! Like I said, it’s a
blast to be a part of something so exciting and
different from what we usually do! Mr. Curry and I
will be coming to the meeting on Thurs. night to show
everyone what they need to do so that everyone is
comfortable with their roles.

If anyone has a last-minute silent auction item,
please see Denise Black or myself, Karen Curry, to get
it properly recognized on the list. We will take
items up to about 4:00 P.M. on Sat. so that we have
enough time to make everything flow well.

Please encourage friends and family members to
come and enjoy and have them bring their friends as
well! The more the merrier!

Everyone needs to give a big THANK YOU to the
Burns family for looking into having their relatives
from Napoli Foods donate food and other items. They
have gotten almost everything we need donated…which
I’m sure adds up to many hundreds of dollars. So, the
next time you see them, please thank them from our
troop. So see you on Thursday night and Saturday.

Yours in Scouting,

Karen Curry

Troop 5: A thank you

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

From Patrick M, SPL:

Hello Troop 5,

Thank you to all who attended my Eagle project. A
total of twenty-three people were there working from
10-3 on Sunday.

Thank you to:
Toby A. Mr. DeAngelis Stephen Z.
Matt M. Erik R. Eric D.
Mr. Amodeo Joe P. Chris M.
John F. Mr. Redline Marc R.
Tom Curry Sr. Will P. Andrew B.
John W. Nick M. Tom C.
Mr. Marcucci Mrs. Marcucci Meghan M.

I am hoping (to be determined) to complete my project
next weekend or the weekend after: same time, same
place, but we will filling in the hole that we just
dug with mulch. A special thanks to all the adults
for bringing wheel barrows, a dump truck, and my
parents for supplying all the food and drink.

***If anyone has a shovel with Tom’s lawn care written
on it please return to Mr. Curry at the next meeting.

Thanks,

Pat M SPL

Troop 5: Eagle Project Sunday, October 21st from 10-3

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Hello Troop 5,

I am going to be working on my Eagle project this
weekend. It is going to be from 10 A.M. till 3 P.M.
on Sunday October 21st. Each person should bring a
shovel and work gloves. Let me know if that is a
problem.

It will be at the Shephardson playground which is down
the hill from the Boy Scout meetings.

Please RSVP to me

Thanks,

Pat M SPL

Troop 5: Correction to date

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

The popcorn blitz was incorrectly listed as Sunday,
October 24th. It should read as Sunday, October 21st.

Thank you, Marti, for catching that!!!

Troop 5: Reminders

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

From Jackie Mulhall, Popcorn Chairman:

A reminder that the Troop 5 popcorn blitz is scheduled
for Sunday Oct. 24 from 3:00 – 5:00. We will meet at
Meadowview Park in Middlebury at 3:00. We will then
go out and sell popcorn. At 4:30 we will meet back up
and celebrate with make-your-own sundaes.

***All Scouts should wear Class A uniforms.***

Please RSVP to Jackie Mulhall so we can
have a count of boys and know how much ice cream to
get.

From Maureen Marcucci, Committee Chairman:

Please e-mail me if you have ‘exhausted’ a street
selling popcorn. For example, our family has knocked
on every door on four Middlebury streets. At the
popcorn blitz, I would not want any Scouts to waste
their time on those four streets, or any others you
might let me know about. Please e-mail me.

Please do not view the popcorn blitz as an extra
burden. The committee decided to offer it to the
Scouts as a fun way to fulfill the $150 in popcorn
sales that we ask from each Scout. You can meet up
with a friend and go out and sell together. And then,
you can have ice cream afterwards!!!

***Please bring your money or unsold pasta supper
tickets to the meeting tomorrow night. On average, it
takes about half an hour to sell ten tickets, so
door-to-door is worth your time. If someone can’t
attend, we have found that suggesting they purchase a
ticket for a senior citizen works really well.

Carwash Saturday, October 20th: Towels, Baked Goods, Workers

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Hello Troop 5:

Help is needed for the carwash this Saturday, October
20th.

1 – So far, only one person has brought in old towels.
PLEASE give your old, frayed towels to Mr. Romano
this Thursday night at the meeting. I find it
difficult to believe that everybody has perfect bath
and beach towels – clean out those closets.

2 – Baked goods: If you can bake for our sale this
Saturday, please contact the Romano’s. So far, about
five families have volunteered, so much more is needed
to make this a success.

3 – Volunteer to work. Anything you can do between 9
AM and 3 PM is appreciated: 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours.
If you are coming from a soccer game, a carwash is
the perfect place to cool off.

All kidding aside, any help you can give would be
greatly appreciated. Please contact Mr. Romano at
eromano@sbcglobal.net

Thanks very much,

Maureen Marcucci
