2007 Summer Camp Forms uploaded

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Hey Troop 5!

I said, Hey Troop 5!

Are you ready? (for what you ask?)

For Summer Camp 2007 at Camp Mattatuck!

In the next week or so, I will be sending out the initial mailing for summer camp this year. We will be attending Camp Mattatuck from August 12th-18th. As in years past, this is the final week of the camping season at Mattatuck and we will again be staying in Arrow South. The total cost this year (if all payments are made by April 26th) is $300 (including troop photo). This amount will be reduced by any contributions the troop makes (to be decided at the March 1st Committee meeting).
In the meantime, I have uploaded some forms for you to look at and download if you need to. Check out the forms page for all of them.

No scout from Troop 5 should stay home from camp for financial reasons, there are many sources of campership money available to us. If you need to apply for a campership, the first form to fill out is here. It must be returned to me no later than March 29th (no deposit is required).

All other scouts need to make a $50 deposit by March 29th to hold your place with Troop 5. The balance will be due on April 26th.

The Medical Form has been updated this year and is posted here. EVERYONE will need to fill out the front of the new form, regardless of if you need a new physical this year. If your last physical was more than 36 months before we go to camp, you will need a new one this year (12 months if you are over 40). I will be contacting you to let you know what is needed.

Get ready for a great time at Mattatuck!

Troop 5 – Thank you

Thank you to the following families who helped set-up
and clean-up for the Court of Honors:

Bushka, Black, Connery, Curry, Redline, Dibble,
Zembruski, and anyone I missed!

Thank you to the following Scouts who attended Scout
Sunday at the Middlebury Congregational Church:

Nathan B., Justin C., Tommy C., Nick M., Patrick M.,
Justin N., Will P., Erik R., Kevin R., Steven Z.

Thank you to all of their Scout families for sending
baked goods. Thank you also to the Mayer and Jones
families who generously dropped off baked goods, even
though they could not attend.

FROM WAYNE KREVETSKI, TROOP 5 ASSISTANT SCOUTMASTER:

I just wanted to drop you and the Committee a short
note concerning the recent Bromley Ski Trip. This
year I had the pleasure to spend Saturday and Sunday
skiing with the Troop. As always the boys were well
behaved and we all had a lot of fun, but I noticed
something this year that I wanted to share with you
folks. It was something that might be missed when
working with the boys on a day to day basis when there
is so much going on and so many things that need
one’s attention. I noticed a quiet team spirit,
“Scout Spirit”, with the group. When the adults had
to leave for a moment to “get the cars” for instance,
and a particular scout was left in charge, he showed
the initiative to get the others to carry the troop
gear to the curb so it was ready to load, and the
others joined in and lent a hand without question. On
a number of occasions I saw scouts assisting each
other, working together, or “Taking an easier trail”
because one member of the group was not ready for the
more difficult route. This was not done grudgingly
because they were told to by a leader but willingly
without a second thought. It was clear to me that the
boys had a genuine respect for each other. You can be
rightfully proud of your sons and the gentlemen that
they are becoming. I can tell you that I was proud to
be in their company and look forward to continued
association with Troop 5. I would like to close by
saying Thank you to Pat Dooling and Tom and Karen
Curry for giving their time and efforts so that the
trip could take place. I believe that the Troop is
lucky to have Leaders willing to make the commitment
so that a full program can be provided. I am looking
forward to the Venture Patrol’s visit.

Yours in Scouting

Wayne Krevetski

FROM PETE PLOCH, CHESHIRE TROOP 51 SCOUTMASTER:

***Four spots available for the World Jamboree***

My son is going to the World Jamboree this coming July
in London . This past weekend, we went to a meeting
for his Jamboree troop up in Sturbridge. The Jamboree
Scoutmaster said that there are still four slots
available in the troop. The Scoutmaster said that he
would be willing to come to talk to any boy and his
parents to get the necessary paperwork going. As you
probably know, the cost for this is pretty steep,
about $4,000. But for anyone who can swing it, it
certainly sounds like it’s going to be a great thing.

If people want to get in touch with the Jamboree
Scoutmaster or have some general questions, they can
contact me and I’ll pass along the information.
