Report on Bromley Ski Weekend
From Tom Curry, Advancement Chairman and participant
in the Bromley ski weekend:
Hello to all,
Just wanted to pass on the news about the Bromley
ski weekend the Troop took this past weekend. It
started with a long drive up Friday night thinking why
are we going on a ski trip when it has not snowed but
an inch? Thinking as positively as we could we all
got up, (VERY VERY), early Saturday morning 6:00 A.M.
and walked up to breakfast.
We were fed scrambled
eggs, bacon, english muffins and french toast sticks
with syrup, orange juice, milk and of course several
cups of coffee for Pat and I. Then off we went to the
mountain. Well, to everyone’s delight, the conditions
on the mountain were the best I’ve seen in the past
five years I’ve attended this trip. They had been
making snow right along and this past week they
received some help from the man upstairs. The man
upstairs even had it snow all day Saturday for us so
the open trails stayed in fantastic shape all day.
When we returned to the gym Saturday afternoon we all
got ready for the evening meal. That was great as
well. We were fed a huge helping of pasta and at
least 4 – 5 meatballs each with bread sticks, salad
and for desert we had brownies and ice cream. And yes
Pat and I had more coffee. We spent a couple of hours
after dinner watching another troop play touch
football right near our camping area. We asked them
on a few occasions to please not throw the football so
close to our camp area, as some Scouts were trying to
do homework. When their football got stuck up in the
dividing curtain, “hee-hee”, most of us did applaud a
bit, but then tried to give them suggestions on how
they could retrieve it – being the good Scouting thing
to do. To no avail. When that excitement died down,
most of the Scouts were tired and started to “chill
out”. I must say that Troop 5 boys were VERY, VERY
well behaved. We only had to speak to them once or
twice the entire weekend. Lights were turned out by
10:00 P.M. and I think most if not all our boys were
fast asleep. Sunday morning we were up by 6:00 A.M.
to get ready for breakfast and pack up all our gear.
On our way to breakfast we saw that the man upstairs
had given us three more inches of fresh snow
overnight. So we knew day two was going to be just as
good skiing as day one. For breakfast we were served
scrambled eggs, a waffle with syrup, sausage links and
an English muffin orange juice and milk. And, yes,
Pat and I had MORE coffee. Then back to the gym to
pack up all our gear and off to the mountain for day
two of skiing. We had the pleasure of having Wayne
Krevetski join us both on Saturday and Sunday. Wayne
even took the time to give all the boys, as well as
Pat and I, lessons and pointers on how to improve our
skiing. Wayne is a certified ski instructor and works
at Killington as a ski instructor. We thank him for
taking time out of his spare time to be with us.
During the two days of skiing, we had the two best
lodge masters in the lodge holding down the fort for
us. Keeping track of when the boys went out, and whom
they paired up with, as well as when they came back
in. They also kept an eye on all our gear and food
while we enjoyed the slopes. A Great big thanks go
out to Karen and Jenny Curry for going on this trip.
If not for them we may have had to cancel the trip.
Looking forward to next year,
Tom Curry Sr.
