Popcorn Sales

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

Hello Troop 5:

The SPL Popcorn Challenge continutes this week.
Please report your cumulative sales from the last two
weeks to Patrick M., Scribe. If you cannot attend the
meeting, e-mail your sales to me and I will forward
the number to Patrick.

We have one week left in our Popcorn Fundraiser. This
is the Troop’s biggest fundraiser and do you know that
about 2/3 of the monies raised go right back to the
Scouts to help pay for summer camp and campouts?

It only takes an hour a night to make a difference.
Last night our family sold over $100 in just one
hour’s time. Another family sold $140 and $268 the
two night’s prior – in just one hour of time each
night! As one wise person said, “All it takes is a
little motivation from mom or dad and a little
interest in how the boy is doing with his sales and
just watch them go.”

In this last week of selling, please take AT LEAST
one hour to go out and accompany your Scout selling
popcorn.

Thank you!

Maureen Marcucci, Vice-Chairman

Popcorn Update

Monday, October 16th, 2006

From Jackie Mulhall:

From the Popcorn Kernal (you have to love the Boy
Scout humor!)

You know that stove you used to cook your dinner on at
the last camp-out? Popcorn money was used to but it.
Do you like having a tent to sleep in when you camp
out? Popcorn money buys those too. The money raised
through the popcorn sale is critical to our troop to
support the activities the kids love.

We are half-way through the popcorn sale. Remember
that orders (with money if you want) are due at the
meeting on Thurs. Nov. 2. Don’t forget that each
scout is asked to sell $150 worth of popcorn to get
their camp credit. That’s just 12 items at $13 each.

Also, don’t forget the SPL challenge to beat Tommy
Curry’s popcorn sales or the weekly pizza challenge.

***Please Email Jackie.Mulhall@sbcglobal.net with your
current popcorn sales dollar amount so we can see how
we are doing.***

There will also be a sheet at the pasta dinner to put
your current sales numbers on.

Troop 5: Campout Update

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

>From Dave Redline, Scoutmaster:

Fall Camporee Update:

As fate would have it I will be at the campout this
weekend – a big thanks to Mrs. Prater, Mr. Curry, and
Mr. Ready for coming up and pitching in to make this
happen for our scouts. And of course none of it would
be possible without Mr. Jones leading us over the
weekend.

Some important info:
To make life easier we have decided to change to drop
off and pick up location directly to Camp Mattuck -
drop off will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday night at the Cope
Field parking lot (on the right hand side after
passing the runway) and 10:00 a.m. pickup on Sunday
(please note new time). Your scout will receive some
equipment at the meeting on Thursday night to bring
with him on Friday – it is essential that he have this
with him when he arrives at camp. As mentioned on the
permission slip and at the meetings – boots are
required (no boots/no campout) as well as class A
uniforms. It’s going to be cold and wet so please
take a minute to go over a checklist with them after
they pack and make any suggestions that may make their
weekend a little better. if you have any questions
you can see me tomorrow night or call at 758-0882. I’m
looking forward to a great weekend.

Dave

Youth Protection

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

From Robin Redline, Outdoor Activities Chairman:

I am looking into setting up a class for Youth Protection for any parent that would like to take it or needs to update.

Troop 5 does require you to take this class if you expect to go on a Troop function with the boys in a leader capacity.  There is no fee for you and the class would be approximately 1 hour long.  I want to know that there is a need for someone to come from our District to give the class and am asking that anyone that is interested to email me at outdoor@troop5middlebury.org

Note, if you have taken the online version of Youth Protection this class is not needed.  If you have taken online Youth Protection please let me know as I keep the Troops record of it for Tour Permit application purposes.  This training does expire in two years and the Troop has to know who and when training expires.
